For now, Microsoft recommends uninstalling these apps until the tech giant figures out a solution for the issue. However, for those using third-party UI customization apps like StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher, Microsoft has confirmed that new Build 22621.1344 (KB5022913) is causing these apps to not start up and launch properly. Later on, the company begun rolling out it out to users and as expected from a massive feature update, the changelog is one of the longest you would see. We are looking into if Win7 menus can be handled differently but right now they are tied to how we handle Win10/11 menus.Earlier today, Microsoft announced the February 2023 feature update for Windows 11 22H2 Moment 2. There is also an option for apps which is different and does not impact the taskbar/start menu. The dark mode for system setting sets the taskbar and start menu and a few other things in dark mode. The software is working as you would expect on Windows 10/11. Alternatively, if it is to be based on the Windows Personalization settings, it should only be put into effect if the overall Color Mode is set to Dark or the Default App Mode is set to Dark. If the intent is to make a dark background an option, ideally it should be a configuration setting in Start11. I’d like to see Start11 display context menus for Start Menu items the way they were prior to Version 1.36, and as they were in Start 10, Start 8, and Windows 7 itself. With those settings and Default App Mode set to Light, no other context menus show up with a black background. For some reason, Microsoft requires those settings to enable the option to turn on Show Accent Color on Start and Taskbar. As has been the case for some time, I have the overall Color Mode set to Custom and the Default Windows Mode set to Dark. My guess is that Start11 is now picking the background color based on the Default Windows Mode setting found in Settings > Personalization > Colors. I first encountered this and reported it with Version 1.36. When I right-click on the Start Menu, on any item in the Start Menu, or on the Taskbar, the context menu displays with a black background. I am using the Windows 7 Style menu with the Windows 7 Style substyle. I just updated to Start11 Version 1.39.1 on my PC running Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1265). Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 a better product. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated. If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. ![]() Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive services (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube) and links included in your post.
